A Message from MMS Principal Jay Reutter

We are so excited for opening night of our MMS Drama production of Aladdin Jr.! Our students have poured an incredible amount of time, energy, and talent into this show, and we know it is going to be a fantastic performance.

Showtimes at the MMS Auditorium:
  • Friday, March 13: 7:30 PM
  • Saturday, March 14: 3:00 PM & 7:30 PM
  • Sunday, March 15: 3:00 PM

We would love to see a packed house cheering on these talented performers. It’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the creativity and hard work of our students and the strength of our school community.

Today was also a great day at MMS as students enjoyed Journey Day, exploring new experiences and learning opportunities beyond the typical school day. With spring break just one week away, this feels like the perfect way to come together as a community before we head into a well-deserved break.

We hope to see many of you there supporting our students and enjoying the show!

Every Kid! Every Day!

Go Comets!

8th Grade Students: MHS Visit and Scarlet Oaks Career Fair
We currently have two great opportunities happening at MMS this month for your students.  On March 16th OR 17th (depending on neighborhood), students will take part in a tour of MHS and participate in a Career Fair presented by Scarlet Oaks.

What are these events?
MHS Tours

  • This opportunity allows our 8th-grade students to travel to MHS and take part in a student-led tour by the MHS SIBS (Current Junior and Senior Students).
  • Students will see various parts of the building, programs, etc.  Students will walk to MHS on their date, weather permitting. We encourage students to come prepared with any questions they may have about high school life.
  • Parents, if your student has any concerns, this is a great opportunity for them to feel more comfortable and confident about their next step!
  • To make these tours as helpful as possible, we invite students to submit any questions they have about high school life before their visit. Whether it's about classes, extracurriculars, or daily routines, our SIBS tour guides are ready to help! Submit your questions here

Scarlet Oaks Career Fair

  • Students and staff from Scarlet Oaks will set up a career fair at MMS in the Auxiliary Gym.
  • The goal is to expose students to the wide variety of programming available to them as MHS students during their Junior and Senior years.
  • During this time, students will have a whole group discussion with some of the major programs, followed by individual, student-directed visits with the remaining programs stationed in the gym.
  • Follow the link for more information about Scarlet Oaks Programming

If you have any questions about the tours, please feel free to reach out. We look forward to this amazing event for our students!

Things to Know

Nominate an Outstanding Comet for the 2025 MSF Above & Beyond Awards
The Mason Schools Foundation is proud to recognize educators who go Above & Beyond for Mason students each day. Community members may nominate individuals for:

  • MSF Above & Beyond Teacher Award
  • MSF Above & Beyond Staff Award (for a non-teaching Mason City Schools staff member)

Each recognized teacher will receive a $250 classroom grant, and the selected staff member will receive $250 in recognition of their contributions. Honorees will also be celebrated at their school or department and at Mason Schools Foundation events.
Nominations from parents, students, staff, and community members are open through April 1, 2026. Submit your nomination using this form and help us recognize the outstanding Comets who make a difference every day! 💚

Nerf Wars
The non-school sponsored Nerf Gun wars are underway. "Nerf Wars" is a game where teens use Nerf guns to go around and “shoot” other teenagers who are not on their team. Students are prohibited from playing Nerf Wars on any MCS property or events.  A few years ago, a nerf wars game in the Forest Hills school district allegedly led to a student being shot with an actual gun. It is important to talk with your children about the dangers of this game - which can lead students to drive recklessly, run around neighborhoods and homes, and make unwise decisions.

3 Ways to Report Absences
A reminder that there are three ways to inform our staff of an absence.  Saving the attendance number in your phone is a great option.

PTO Updates:

MMS PTO Grant In Action: Classroom Games for English Language Learners
Thanks to the continued support of our MMS families, the PTO recently funded a grant to provide engaging learning tools to support our English Language Learners. These materials help students build vocabulary, practice conversation skills, and strengthen language comprehension in a fun and interactive way.

Through this grant, students now have access to resources such as conversation cards, noun and action verb flashcards, educational posters, and interactive games like Guess in 10 and Spot It. These tools allow students to practice speaking, listening, and critical thinking while working together with classmates.

Hands-on activities like these make language learning more engaging and help students build confidence as they develop their communication skills.
We are grateful to our families and community for supporting MMS PTO through donations and fundraisers. Your generosity allows us to fund grants like this that directly benefit our staff and students.

Thank you for helping us create meaningful learning opportunities at Mason Middle School.

Help Stock the MMS Snack Cart:
